Tea hybrids are very resistant modern roses. In fact they are the più used in the garden. These varietiesà they can be easily reproduced with different methods. The reproduction of hybrids of tea è however very controversial, becauseé various sources suggest conflicting methods. The challenge è between two solutions: l’ grafting or cutting. Both are strongly practiced in the reproduction of tea hybrids, it remains only to choose between the più one; simple and less expensive.
L’ grafting è the method of reproduction più practiced for tea hybrids, but also più complex, becauseé provides for the use of a rootstock obtained from cuttings. To obtain hybrid tea roses with the same characteristics as the mother plant, a rootstock of wild rose, especially rose hips, is usually chosen. A bud is taken from the tea rose to be grafted, about one and a half centimeters from the branch. A T cut is made on the rootstock, the bark is lifted and the bud is inserted. This method of reproduction is called “ bud graft&rdquo ;. It is usually done in late summer or early autumn and is therefore also called “ dormant bud graft&rdquo ;. Not è però still known whether bud grafts are più effective than those for cuttings.
The cutting è the method of reproduction più popular with gardening enthusiasts. This method è in fact più quick and easy to apply. The reproduction of tea hybrids is obtained by grafting semi-woody cuttings, that is, twigs that are partially brown. The cutting can be carried out; take from the apex or from the node. The apical one is cut from the tip of the branch, while the one of the node is cut under a node and must contain two or three nodes. The cutting può be fifteen to thirty centimeters long. Generally, those resulting from pruning are used. These can be planted in pots or in the open field. The potting soil must be light and well drained, preferably composed of sand, perlite and peat. To favor the rooting of the cuttings, the compound must be kept constantly moist. The upper part può be protected with a bag and placed in a shaded area. Reproduction by cuttings can be carried out; practice in May and, in areas with a mild climate, also in October. Some, to let the cuttings breathe, prefer not to cover them with the plastic bag. To speed up engraftment, the substrate può also be enriched with a powder for rooting. This, if the correct climatic conditions exist, can be severe; also be avoided.
