The crimson red blooms are semi-double, with a diameter of 7-8 cm and a petal count of 10-15. It's extremely fragrant and renowned since ancient Roman times when it was used for the production of perfumes and for its healing properties. It grows as a large, wide bush to a height of 90-100 cm and spreads up to 90 cm. Semi-shade tolerant; the foliage has a nice metallic green colour; it blooms generously only in Spring. It is known with many names: Apothekerrose, Provins Rose, Double Red Rose, Officinalis, Old Red Damask, Red Gallica, Red Rose of Lancaster, RosaGallica Duplex, Rosa Gallica Maxima, Rosa Gallica Plena.
